THE NODE Sown-Brain Newsletter, Winter 2010
As the days get longer and the Springs come earlier each year, our thoughts turn to saving our natural environment before it melts down into slag or vapourises off into space.
Of particular note is the upcoming Vine and Cheese night on Wednesday 21 July 2010 at the SOWN Environment Centre on Yoorala Street. It will be something of a Christmas in July affair, with fine wines, delicious cheeses and a talk on vines by Sandy Pollock Senior Botanist from Queensland Herbarium. Sandy is also an experienced bushcarer. The talk will cover what is a vine, why vines are important, threats to vines, key vine species of Enoggera Catchment, encouraging vines in your reveg site, when vines go bad - managing your vines.
Red wines for tasting will include: Geoff Merrill 2006 Maclarenvale Shiraz Grenache Mouvedre, d'Arenberg 2008 Footbolt Shiraz, Browns of Padthway's 2003 Edward Family Reserve Malbec, Bleasdale 2008 Second Innings Malbec and perhaps the pick of a good bunch, Browns of Padthaway's 2005 Ernest Family Reserve Shiraz. There will also be lashings of white quaffers to cleanse the palate for those who have designated drivers or can afford a taxi. No need to book, just turn up and if you would like to bring a special wine or slab of cheese to sample, please do. For those on high cholesterol diets and strict vegans there will be a range of tasty tidbits.
