"I wanted to do welding!", confides Pete Dorney, "but I couldn't find a TAFE course." What he did find was a course in horticulture, so he did that, and loved it. These experiences, as well as his teaching skills and a love of the bush that began in childhood, helped him when he began the task of managing the SOWN Nursery. He built a strong team of people by acknowledging their work and he encouraged them to think beyond their own little group. An environmentalist, he still believes that SOWN is a good example of the old adage, Think globally, act locally.
