On the first day of his retirement, Athol Brown got out of bed and wondered, What will I do today?
The decision he made to wander down to the creek and pull a few weeds changed the course of his early retirement, and the banks of Enoggera Creek along his street. With a handful of neighbours and gangs of "CROs" (people fulfilling Community Service Orders ) Athol led the clearing, cleaning and re-planting of the area. Together, they contributed "tens of thousands of hours" since that first day of retirement in 1996.
