Ithaca Intact Official Launch June 3, 2007

On Sunday June 3 SOWN celebrated the launch of Ithaca Intact with a family fun day at Bowman Park in Bardon.

The Family Fun Day was co-hosted by SOWN and Brisbane City Council Active and Healthy Parks. The day ran from 10am to 3pm and was a great day out for all the family.

Save Our Waterways Now Vice-President Robert Whyte said SOWN had a grand vision to restore the entire length of Ithaca Creek.

“We have been mapping the creek and consulting with all our members along the creek. Now we have started involving the local community,” Rob said.

Many local residents registered their interest in participating in Ithaca Intact at the launch.

One of the best-known local community groups with a creek frontage is Broncos Leagues Club which has committed $10,000 to the restoration.

This matches $10,000 (each) already provided by Cr Geraldine Knapp and Cr David Hinchliffe.

Rob said SOWN was very pleased to have support from all sides of politics and all levels of Government.

“Thanks the Councillors Knapp and Hinchliffe for the funding they are providing but also to the great support we’ve had from Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, local State MP Andrew Fraser and Federal MP Arch Bevis.

“Next step is finishing off the mapping process. Then we’ll be rolling up our sleeves and getting into the work,” Rob said.
